Having
grown up on the family farm where horses were a part of the farm operations, I learned early on how to care for horse’s
feet. As a kid, I watched and learned from my grandfather and father how to trim and shoe horses. It was very important that
the horses stay sound in order to perform their work around the farm. When I grew big enough, I got hands on experience.
In later
years, as I acquired horses of my own, I found it hard to find a reliable farrier so I began to perform hoof care for my own
animals. During this time I became good friends with a professional farrier and began working part time assisting him. One
of our customers that I assisted in providing hoof care and shoeing services was a local Thoroughbred race track.
From these early experiences I learned and developed my skills. Eventually, providing horseshoeing and hoof care services
became a profession.
To this day I
continue to update my knowledge at every opportunity in order to do what’s best for the horse, as the horse is the real
client. I take my time and don’t just rush through the job just to get it done and be on my way. I will take the time
to talk to my clients and try to answer any questions or concerns they may have.
